More details

KALANDRAKA has recovered this classic that back in the 1960’s when it first appeared was considered a revolutionary success. This wordless book stands out for its minimalist, fresh and almost abstract style.  “El globito rojo” inaugurated a period of absence of reality and high simplification of the chromatic scale in children's literature, something quite uncommon yet back in that period. A benchmark within the genre: words have been substituted by images full of dynamism that – far from silence evoke a myriad of objects

Iela Mari, winner of the National Prize of Children's Literature in Armenia in 1971, stated in an interview published in 1985 for ‘La revue des libres pour enfants’ that she imagined this album when “she couldn’t find anything else to be interested of for he own children”. She was interested in the transformation and the cycles of nature, or as she says … “in the birth of life”. Mainly she wanted to call children's attention with books to compensate for the barrage of images that are exposed of throug TV.
